Montreal shooting: 21-year-old man arrested with loaded gun

A 21-year-old young man was arrested in possession of a loaded firearm a few minutes after yet another shooting broke out in the metropolis late Sunday evening.

Many citizens called 911 around 10 p.m. saying they heard detonations near the intersection of Ontario and Saint-Germain streets, in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district.

The police arrived at the scene, but found no suspects, casings on the ground, or impact of projectiles.

But other calls were made to 911 to report new gunshots in the same area at almost the same time.

Several police officers then converged in this area and managed to locate a group of individuals in which a 21-year-old man with a loaded weapon could be pinned down.

He was scheduled to appear Monday on firearms charges.

According to our information, the suspect has already faced justice in the past, but has never been convicted of a crime.

No one was injured during this new episode of armed violence to occur in the metropolis.

According to our research, this would be the 17th shooting event to occur on the island of Montreal since the beginning of March.

Last week, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) held a press conference during which it was recalled that armed violence was the number 1 priority for Montreal police officers.

As of April 5, 135 firearms had been seized since the start of 2023, 23 more than at the same date last year.
