[IMAGES] Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve: a woman in the hospital because of a fire
A woman was injured and taken to hospital after a fire in a residential building in the borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, in Montreal, overnight from Sunday to Monday.
The Montreal Fire Department (SIM) was called around midnight for a fire that broke out on the 2nd floor of a duplex on Lebrun Avenue, near De Grobois Street, in Tétreaultville.
Firefighters dispatched to the scene quickly brought the flames under control, after evacuating the building and the adjacent building, but a woman was found unconscious in her apartment.
The victim was transported to a hospital by Urgences-santé, but there is no fear for his life, said the Montreal Police Service (SPVM), citing medical sources.
For the moment, it seems that the cause of the fire is not criminal, said SPVM spokesperson Jeanne Drouin, adding that the investigation will therefore be handled by SIM investigators.
